Since acquiring the Queensmere and Observatory Shopping Centers in Slough in February 2007, opportunities have been investigated to develop above the centers to both improve the retail offering and provide residential apartments above the service deck level.
In December 2007, planning permission was granted for a new 30,000 sq ft retail unit in the Queensmere Centre on the corner of Curzon and Mackenzie Malls. The proposal includes a large open plan retail space at ground floor accessed from the existing internal mall. The first floor level will provide a mezzanine for additional retail space.
Following a period of consultation with both Slough Planning Officers and the Heart of Slough regeneration team a master scheme has been agreed to provide over 550 residential apartments in four towers fronting Wellington Street of which approximately 35% will be affordable accommodation. Included within the proposals will be improved retail offering larger units to the Queensmere Center with live frontage to the rear Wellington Street elevation to improve both the vitality of the street and increase the presence of the shopping centre.
