St Nicholas Centre - Etap Hotel Project

Sutton

Acquired January 2005

The centre has planning permission to construct a 100 bed Accor Etap Hotel over three storey's on top of the existing multi storey car park to the rear of the St Nicholas Centre in Sutton. Accessed both from street level and from the car park top deck the hotel will provide 100 double rooms with en-suite facilities and buffet food service. The hotel will be fully accessible with five of the rooms providing full access for the mobility impaired.

The Hotel development includes the following energy reducing measures: Combined Heat and Power & Trigeneration. This is a process of producing heat and electricity at the same time, together with heat recovery from the CHP to drive the refrigeration cycle within an absorption chiller to provide air conditioning. In comparison to conventional air conditioning methods the absorption chiller consumes very little electricity leading to considerable savings in primary energy consumption.

Harvested water supply is proposed to take rainwater from roofs to be reused to flush WC's within the Hotel. The main roofs will be drained by a gravity system to a local rainwater harvesting tank where it is filtered prior to supplementing the WC flush system. Sedum grass to flat roofs reduces drain overflow likelihood and pressure on streams and reservoirs. Reduces the impact of hard surfaces and land sealing. The system improves microclimate, air quality by binding/filtering dust, reduces impact of urban growth, retains moisture in dryer seasons and provides a home for birds and plants.
