Horses of Helios fountain coins donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
Every year on St George’s Day, we collect the coins tossed into our Horses of Helios fountain at Piccadilly Circus – and this year, we were once again moved by the generosity of visitors from around the world.
We discovered coins from Canada, Spain, Moldova, Romania, Mexico, Greece and more – each one a tiny wish, a quiet moment of hope tossed into the water.
This simple act has created something special: a reminder of how international London is, and how the West End continues to bring people together from every corner of the globe.
Installed in 1992 by renowned sculptor Rudy Weller, the Horses of Helios – Aethon, Eous, Phlegon, and Pyrois – are depicted bursting from the water in a powerful celebration of energy and myth.
And don’t forget to look up! The Daughters of Helios – the joyful Three Graces – leap from the rooftop above in a dance of light and grace, resplendent in gold.
Dedicated as a charity fountain in 1994 by HRH Princess Michael of Kent, this iconic landmark continues to give. This year, all the coins collected will be donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) (Registered Charity No. 209603) – supporting the brave volunteers who save lives at sea every day.
As long-term, multigenerational landowners – and the largest landowners in the Piccadilly Circus–Leicester Square corridor – we’re proud of our role in stewardship, creating places filled with life, history, and connection.
To everyone who paused to make a wish – thank you. You’ve helped turn a fleeting moment into something lasting and meaningful.
