Zedwell hotel planning approved for Charles House, Leicester Square

Zedwell Hotels is proud to announce that Westminster City Council has granted planning approval for Charles House, Leicester Place – a forward-thinking scheme that breathes new life into a building no longer fit for office use, located between Theatreland and Chinatown at the heart of London’s West End.

Criterion Capital

This sustainable retrofit will deliver:

– A Bold New Hospitality Concept – 230 beds, soon to be unveiled as a new concept under our Zedwell Hotels brand, delivering a modern, high-quality and affordable sleep experience in the centre of London.

– Enhanced Support for London’s Cultural Scene – Providing much-needed visitor accommodation to serve the area’s thriving night-time and entertainment economy, carefully designed to ensure there is no impact on the operation of our ground-floor tenant, The Prince Charles Cinema, while offering affordable, well-located stays that will also benefit the cinema and neighbouring theatres by making it easier for audiences, staff and performers to stay close to the venues they love.

– New Opportunities for Local Employment – Creating new jobs during both construction and operation, contributing to the vitality and resilience of the West End economy.

– Sustainability at the Forefront – Retaining and re-purposing the existing structure avoids unnecessary demolition, safeguards the character of both the Leicester Place and Chinatown Conservation Areas, and delivers a dramatic reduction in embodied carbon.

Halima Aziz, Head of Hotels at Criterion Hospitality, commented: “This approval represents an important step in the growth of our pioneering Zedwell Hotels brand. Charles House will unveil an innovative new Zedwell Hotels concept, carefully tailored for the city’s cultural heartbeat, while respecting its history, neighbours and much-loved institutions. It’s a project that demonstrates how high-quality, sustainable regeneration can bring new energy to cherished places.”

We look forward to sharing more about our exciting new concept soon – and to seeing the positive impact it will have for visitors, venues, and the local community
