Zedwell Hotels supercharges UK expansion with Oxford announcement

City-centre building will bring Zedwell’s tech-driven hospitality to one of the UK’s most iconic destinations, attracting millions of global visitors each year

Criterion Capital

Zedwell has announced the conversion of Oxenford House, 13–15 Magdalen Street, a prominent city-centre freehold property in Oxford, marking the latest milestone in the viral hotel brand’s fast-growing UK expansion.

This landmark move confirms plans to bring Zedwell to the historic university city, building on the momentum of last year’s headline-grabbing launch of the world’s largest capsule hotel within the Grade II-listed London Pavilion at Piccadilly Circus, alongside the recent opening of Zedwell Underground Park Lane – the brand’s second subterranean hotel in the UK, located in prime central Mayfair.

Built as a modern, tech-driven hospitality platform, Zedwell combines a fully automated guest journey with a design philosophy centred on calm. Guests enjoy a frictionless stay, from seamless self check-in kiosks to digital key access, supported by 24/7 AI-powered WhatsApp assistance. Across Zedwell’s accommodation formats, advanced soundproofing, purified air systems and ambient lighting remove clutter, light and noise pollution, while body-cushioning mattresses enhance comfort to create tranquil environments within busy city centres. The result is a restorative experience that enables travellers to recharge before heading back out to explore the city.

Home to the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University, the city attracts a global community of students, researchers and entrepreneurs and supports a thriving innovation economy spanning biosciences, healthcare, technology, publishing and the £6 billion “Motorsport Valley” automotive cluster. Welcoming more than 7 million visitors annually, the city provides a strong backdrop for Oxenford House, positioned on the high-footfall corridor linking Cornmarket Street and George Street. The six-storey, 22,000 sq ft mixed-use building sits moments from Gloucester Green Market, the Ashmolean Museum and the Oxford Union, with Oxford Station and the London coach terminus within walking distance. Surrounded by leading retail, dining and entertainment venues, the building sits at the heart of Oxford’s busiest tourism district, where demand for centrally located accommodation at accessible price points continues to rise.

Halima Aziz, Head of Hotels at Criterion Hospitality, commented: “Oxford is one of the world’s most iconic and culturally rich cities, making it a natural fit for Zedwell as we continue to scale across the UK. With a current and committed pipeline of more than 9,000 rooms by 2028, Zedwell is gaining powerful momentum across key urban destinations. We look forward to introducing our unique guest experience to Oxford and welcoming travellers from around the world.”
